NASCAR Driver Forced To Drop Out Of Competition After His Race Car Was Stolen

NASCAR driver Travis Kvapil discovered Friday morning that the trailer containing his race car was stolen from the parking lot of his hotel room in Morrow, Georgia.

Kvapil and his Team Xtreme Racing were scheduled to compete in the Sprint Cup Series this Saturday in Atlanta, and had until 5:45 p.m. on Friday to register the vehicle. Team Xtreme owner, John Cohen, told USA Today Sports that they hope to enter the Sprint Cup next week.

Team Xtreme tweeted this from its account the day before the theft.

Morrow Police Sgt. Larry Oglesby told BuzzFeed News that at 5:52 a.m., Team Xtreme crew manager Peter Sospenzo called authorities to report the stolen vehicle.

The Nascar team was staying at the Drury Inn in Morrow, and the trailer was in the parking lot.
Oglesby said the stolen truck connected to the trailer was a black Ford truck with New Jersey license plates.

Kvapil has since taken to social media to spread the word about the crime.

The trailer was white and unmarked. Oglesby said that normally, such vehicles contain lawn equipment and can easily be sold for cash.

“Because it wasn’t marked, they’re probably thinking it’s easy pickings,” he added.

Kvapil expressed a similar theory on Twitter.

Law enforcement officials say the combined value of the trailer and the race car, equipment, and two motors inside falls somewhere between $350,000–400,000.

Oglesby added that the Morrow Police Department has been in communication with Team Xtreme as well as multiple news outlets to spread the word about the theft, and hopes to return the trailer and race car to their rightful owners.
BuzzFeed News has reached out to Team Xtreme for comment.

Aston Martin’s $2.33 Million, 800HP Vulcan Super Car Throws Flames And Is Officially INSANE

ASTON MARTIN

If there is just one car that I want Jeremy Clarkson to take for a drive RIGHT THIS SECOND, it’s Aston Martin’s flashy new big boy toy, The Vulcan. After hyping the car for months with videos, Aston Martin is prepared to unveil their next generation super car at the Geneva Auto Show next week in Switzerland. With a sticker price of $2.33 million, the ultra British luxury car is more a private spacechip than a plane: It has a side exhaust that shoots flames when revved for blastoff, boasts a massive 7.0-liter V12 engine, and claims somewhere slightly north of 800 horsepower. As Car and Throttle notes, that is 50-more HP than the automaker’s current super car, the One-77. Only 24 Vulcans will be made, according to Aston Martin.
Here’s the thing: You can’t use a car this powerful to pick up your date for a night out at Applebees; The Vulcan is not exactly street legal. Rather, it’s intended to live in the ecosystem that it thrives in: The track. The Verge explains what you’re getting from Aston Martin if you spend that $2.3 million on this whip:
However, buying a Vulcan isn’t like buying a car — it’s more like signing up to be a test pilot. You can’t just take the Vulcan out on the road (it’s track-only), and new owners are offered a free program of “intensive track driver training.” Essentially this means going back to driving school, but with a car this powerful, it’s a must for all but the most experienced drivers. Plus, in this case, instruction is being given by Aston Martin Racing drivers such as Le Mans-winning Darren Turner, and the training cars are vehicles like the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, Vantage GT4, and One-77.
Still… That engineering gives me goosebumps. Watch this teaser trailer:

Motorcyclist Gets Clipped By Car Running Red Light, Sticks The Landing Like An Olympic Gymnast

Some drivers simply should not be allowed on the road. If you’re getting caught on camera running a red light and sideswiping a motorcyclist, your license should not only be revoked but you shouldn’t be allowed the use of public transportation for five years.
Also, thank God for the rise of helmet and dash cameras. Just imagine a world where this guy wasn’t wearing a helmet cam, and that driver who blew through the red light several seconds after it turned run, well, it’s his word versus the driver of the car.
But now that I’ve said all of that, can we talk for a second about how much of a badass this biker is after sticking that landing like Gabby Douglas? He gets t-boned by that car and manages to land standing up, and it all happens in the blink of an eye. Then out of nowhere a cute nurse shows up to heal his wounds?! What is this magical place?

And let’s watch that impact + landing once more in GIF, for good measure:

Drunk Driver Gets DUI After Slamming Into Parked Cars…Directly In Front Of Police Station

drunk-driver-crash-belarus-police-station-dui-1
Don’t drive drunk. Just don’t do it. There’s never an excuse to drive drunk. Walk, take a taxi, sprint, don’t drink if there’s no other option. Just don’t drive drunk.
This drunk driver in Belarus did not get that memo, because here we see him come screaming down the street in his car and plowing into a group of parked cars. We’re able to see and know all of this because there’s security camera footage. There’s security camera footage because this moron managed to plow into cars at the doorsteps of the local police station, which is of course covered in security cameras.

via Onliner
He REALLY smashed into those cars, huh? And with all of those cops just standing there waiting for something interesting to happen….
You know what they say: ‘There’s never a dull moment in Belarus!’ (they totally say that, I swear)

Watch This Ninja Save A Vintage Mustang From Near Total Destruction

YOUTUBE
Some people cannot take care of their nice things, and other people treat the most menial of objects as priceless artifacts. This guy seems to fall somewhere in between that spectrum.
I’m assuming this is the mechanic, and he’s driven this vintage Ford Mustang convertible into the shop and forgot to put it in gear, or set the parking break, which is a major no-no. The car then begins to reverse backwards out of control, with the door open, and the mechanic springs into gear.
He first closes the door at the last nanosecond, preventing it from getting knocked off from the backwards force of the car, and saving himself a shit ton of money on repairs. Then he manages to hope in the front seat and stop the car microseconds before it rubs up against another car parked out in the lot, again saving himself a ton in repairs. Some pretty white-knuckle shit here if you’re a gear-head or a mechanic, and impressive that he was able to turn a disastrous situation into a cool clip on the Internet:

And now for the two near catastrophic saves in GIF:

Watch An Audi RS7 Drive Itself Around A Race Track At 150MPH With NO Driver

YOUTUBE/AUDI DEUTSCHLAND

Self-driving cars just reached a whole new level as the Audi RS7 concept car hit speeds of around 150 miles per hour on the Hockenheimring race track in Germany. Audi claims that the car can lap any race track almost as fast as a professional driver without, you know, actually having a driver sitting in the car.
Watch as cameras mounted inside the Audi RS7 give you an amazing virtual tour around the course at high speed.

Another look at the car on the track along with just how the hell this was able to be done.

Penis Drawn On A $2.5 Million Dollar Bugatti Veyron

It has often been said that men who drive expensive sports cars with big engines are just trying to make up for what they are lacking under their own hood. Someone took that literally this week. The driver of one of the world’s most expensive production cars, the $2.5 million dollarBugatti Veyron got an unwanted artistic upgrade to his ride when a vandal spray painted a giant cock and balls on the “supercar.”
Yo Dawg, we heard you like penis.
The penis substitution was parked on a city street in Seattle. Normally an exotic looking Bugatti would attract attention from passersby and car aficionados taking pictures of the 1200 horsepower sports car that can go from zero to 60 in 2.6 seconds. So the red phallic addition to the car was quickly made note of.
Car experts estimate this could cost $500K to repair. Stiff price.
Unfortunately no video exists of the owner coming out of his Full Release Thai Massage and 14 karat gold leaf therapy facial cleanse to see the damage. Although I assume it went something like this:

I’m all about wealthy people who have earned it, enjoying their wealth. However one could argue that if you are driving around in such in your face opulence as a $2.5 million dollar car you’re at a minimum asking to be called a douchebag.  I’m not saying vandalism to an expensive piece of property is right. I’m just saying for us average joes schlubbing to work in a Toyota Tercell everyday there has to be part of you that gets some good old fashioned schadenfreude out of this – what the Germans call “pleasure from others pain and misfortune.” Yeah, yeah, I’m just jealous of this douche, but this is the kind of car Bernie Madoff would drive as he made a hit and run on a homeless man without giving it a second thought. Tell me I’m wrong!!
Things could always be worse!
What do you guys think? Is this an outrageous attack on an expensive piece of automotive art or just a good laugh at the expense of some rich bastard who can afford to have the graffiti removed anyway?
UPDATE:  Well, save your fake outrage folks because it turns out we just got Kimmeled! A group of video pranksters called TwinzTV used the penis graffiti on the Bugatti as part of an upcoming prank video that they haven’t released yet. The same group made a video catching golddiggers who would only talk to a guy when they thought the Bugatti he was leaning on was his. - The reactions of these ladies look pretty fake too- fool me once! Good job, dicks!

Google's self-driving cars are now allowed on all roads in California

Google's self-driving cars have made impressive progress in the past few years, logging over 700,000 accident-free miles without human intervention, according to the company (there has been at least one accident reportedly caused by a human driver). But those test-drives have been limited to a few closed courses and select areas. Starting this month, Google and a few other ambitious automakers will be able to unleash self-driving vehicles on any public road in the state of California. Last week, the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) handed out its first 29 permits for testing autonomous cars on all of the state's public roads. Google won 25 of the 29 total permits, which will allow the company to test 25 modified, self-driving Lexus SUVs, according The Guardian. Meanwhile, Audi and Daimler AG-Mercedes Benz also received two permits each to test their own modified, self-driving cars.
The permits are the result of a law California passed back in 2012officially authorizing autonomous vehicle tests, which came after similar laws were passed in Florida and Nevada. In California, any qualified organization can apply for self-driving car permits: they cost $150 for the first car and $50 for every additional car, and require companies testing them to cover insurance costs up to $5 million. The permits are designed to help legitimize and regulate the burgeoning technology, while making sure that California remains at the forefront of its research and development. Small wonder the California DMV trumpeted the news. "Autonomous vehicles are the future of transportation. The potential safety and mobility benefits are enormous," said Jean Shiomoto, director of the California DMV in a statement. "Testing on public roads is one step to developing this technology, and the DMV is excited in facilitating the advancement of autonomous vehicles in California."

12 cars drifting on a racetrack at the same time looks like a lot of fun

12 cars drifting on a racetrack at the same time looks like a lot of fun
Some of the sequences in this video featuring Ryan Tuerck and 11 other formula drift drivers—filmed at Pat's Acres Racing Complex in Canby, Oregon—reminds me of those old 8-bit top perspective racing games from the 80s. I want to grab a joystick and play Super Off-Road all day now.
