Jeans May Be Discoloring iPhone 6 Gold Models

Tech news site BGR reported Wednesday that several iPhone 6 owners have complained that their jeans are dyeing the white plastic strips on the backside of the gold model.
According to BGR, customers have not been able to remove the stains, and one reader jokingly called the issue “dyegate.” Customers reported the issue to Apple and were told to use common household cleaners on the stain, but they did not work, the outlet reported.

Jeans have reportedly dyed the white plastic strips blue.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This apparent issue is the third in a series of “-gate” controversies around the iPhone 6. Days after the phone’s release, there was “Bendgate,” with reports that the larger model, the iPhone 6 Plus, could bend when people stored it in their pockets. A week later, customers complained that their hair was getting caught in the phone’s seam, in a controversy dubbed “Hairgate. “
“Dyegate” seems to only be an issue with the iPhone 6 gold version, where the plastic backings are white. BGR has a few user-submitted images that appear to show the discoloration:

How to Download iOS 8.1 Without Deleting All Your Stuff

Now that iOS 8 is finally here, many an iPhone user has eagerly swiped over to the update screen only to find that the greedy install package just won't fit. But don't worry—you don't have to go on a deleting rampage. All it takes is a few simple workarounds, and you can have your iOS 8 and keep your data, too.

The Easy Way

Since it's the install package itself that gobbles up so much space, the easiest way to get around the issues is to plug your phone or tablet into your computer and update straight from iTunes. That way, your phone won't get stuck with having to bear the update's weight and you should have more than enough room for the measly 1.1 GB of iOS 8 itself. Simple!

The Easy But Scary Way

Of course, the above would work in an ideal world, but in reality, Apple's servers have been flooded. And since people have been reporting problems updating straight form iTunes, your iPhone might have to end up shouldering the brunt of the install package. Besides, you might not be near your computer, and an OTA update is faster than waiting until you are. But fear not, there's a way around that little problem, too.

1) Backup to iTunes.

With you phone plugged into your computer, open iTunes to the device screen. Make sure you have This Computerselected and hit Back Up Now.

2) Backup to iCloud.

In your phone, go to Settings > iCloud > Backup, and hitBack Up Now.

3) Reset your phone to factory settings.

In your phone, go to Settings > General > Reset, and then hit Erase All Content and Settings. It's scary—I know, but we're going to get through this. Once your phone has fully erased, choose to Set Up as New iPhone.

4) Update to iOS 8.

5) Restore from your most recent backup.

Then, just like last time, go to Settings > General > Reset, and hit Erase All Content and Settings. Except now when your phone restarts, you're going to select Restore from iCloud Backup.

Once that's finished, you'll be all iOS 8-ed up without ever losing a thing.

The Slightly Less Easy But Safer Way

If the thought of totally wiping your phone sends shivers down your spine, there are ways to clear up necessary space. If you go to Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage > Photos & Camera, you'll be able to see just how much space all your precious photos are taking up (and it's probably quite a bit).

And even though it's turned on by default, you probably don'tneed Photo Stream. It's meant to back up photos across all your devices, but if you're just taking photos with your iPhone, all it's really doing is keeping an extra copy of every photo you take.
So to free up that extra few gigs, go to Settings > Photos & Camera > My Photo Stream, and turn Photo Stream offand hit Delete when it asks if you're sure (you are).

If you're still a bit short on space after getting rid of your second photo set, head over to Settings > General > Usage > Storage > Manage Storage, and you'll get a nice little overview of every bit of data your iPhone is packing.

Go through and delete any major, space-hogging apps (you can reinstall them after you've installed iOS 8), and keep going until you've freed up the necessary 4.6 GB to finally install that pain-in-the-ass of an iOS update.
And last but certainly not least, relish in the fact that we have an entire year to bask in before we have to do the whole thing all over again. [H/t @BritishGaming]

The Apple Watch appears on Vogue China's next cover

The Apple Watch — particularly the undoubtedly very expensive 18-karat gold edition — sees Apple attempt to move closer into the world of fashion and luxury than it's ever been before. But that's a world that might take some convincing, which seems to be why, following a collaboration with Colette during Paris Fashion Week, CEO Tim Cook and design chief Jony Ive have arranged for supermodel Liu Wen to wear the watch on the cover of the nextVogue China.
"I just thought that they were perfect accessories for the modern-day woman."
"When Jonathan Ive and Tim Cook talked me through how they developed the concept of the Apple Watch from the beginning, I was impressed by their thoughts and passion for the project," editor-in-chief Angelica Cheung tells Business of Fashion. "Then I saw the watches and thought they looked rather good; some are sporty and others are very classic and elegant. At the same time, they all have so many functions that would be useful in our daily life. I just thought that they combined technology, style and functionality and were very modern and, therefore, perfect accessories for the modern-day woman which is what theVogue China woman is about."
Apple introduced a gold version of the iPhone 5S a year ago in what was widely seen as a bid to appeal to the Chinese market, and collaborated with Burberry to use the phone in a runway show. The company has also made high-profile hires from the fashion world such as former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts and ex-Yves Saint Laurent president and CEO Paul Deneve. Vogue profiled Jony Ive for its US edition earlier this month.

Although the Apple Watch is far from a conventional luxury product, Cheung believes it'll appeal to a wide range of Chinese consumers. "We are an ancient country but at the same time a very young country when it comes to fashion and new products. We love to embrace everything that is new, modern and positive," she says. "All these convince us that the intersection of fashion and technology is a natural progression, not something alien."
The November issue of Vogue China will be out on Monday, October 13th, just ahead of pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus opening on the Friday.
