ESPN.com writer Brian Windhorst reported the basket’s stanchion during the scrimmage, which George landed awkwardly against, appeared closer to the baseline than the distance in standard NBA games.
Larry Bird, the Pacers president of basketball operations, issued a statement on the Pacers’ Twitter account.
Statement from Larry Bird about Paul George:
Players from around the league are sending their thoughts and prayers to George on Twitter.
God bless u my brother @Paul_George24. Im hurt, praying for you. Praying for peace. Praying that God heals you in a supernatural way.
Prayers go out to @Paul_George24 and his family! Keep ya head up G!
Sick to my stomach for Paul George. He's tough as nails though. He'll be back big time.
Including players like NBA guard Shaun Livingston and former Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware who both have suffered and recovered from similar gruesome leg injuries.
I know people are in shock from Paul George's injury. He will be able to bounce back bc he has a warrior mentality.
Minor setback for a major comeback PG.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also expressedsupport for George Friday night.
Several hours after the accident, George thanked his supporters and said he’d be back.
Thanks everybody for the love and support.. I'll be ok and be back better than ever!!! Love y'all!! #YoungTrece
